To speak of Mario Sironi is to trace a path of great significance in twentieth-century Italian art. From the urban and monumental tension of the 1920s, his work gradually turns inward during the wartime period.
The two works in the Fondazione’s collection clearly illustrate this transition.
Urban Landscape (1928), currently on view in Milan in the exhibition Metafisica/Metafisiche (on display until 21 June at Palazzo Reale), represents an emblematic image of Sironi’s artistic vision in the 1920s.
