MARTINA Piero
Turin, 1912 - 1982
Painter. After starting out working in his father's photographic workshop, self-taught, he concentrated wholly on painting. He debuted at the Sindacali della Promotrice in Turin (1934-35). In 1942 he took part in the first of a series of Venice Biennales and Roman Quadriennales. In 1969 he began teaching Painting at the Accademia Albertina, and was director from 1973 to 1978. Influenced by Menzio, he subsequently adopted mixed techniques and violent tones of colour and light.
