MARTINI Arturo

Treviso, 1889 - Milan, 1947 Sculptor. He took part in the exhibitions at Ca' Pesaro from 1908 onwards with terracorra and ceramic works with a highly stylised brand of expressionism. After the war he turned to an intimate, archaic purity of style, with an original blend of the influences of F. Laurana and Brancusi, Arnolfo and Etruscan-Roman sculpture, in line with the Roman 'Valori Plastici' ['Plastic values']. He took part in the Italian twentieth century exhibitions, and received important recognition at the Quadriennale in Rome in 1931. Subsequently he took up monumental work and made a name for himself as one of the leading Italian sculptors of the century. In 1945 he abandonned sculpture.
