VACCA Luigi
Turin, 1777–1854
Painter and stage designer. After receiving his early training from his father, Angelo, he became a pupil of the sculptor Filippo Collino and later entered the Academy, where he studied under Laurent Pécheux. His work ranged from frescoes for secular and religious settings to stage designs for several theatres. Examples of his work can be found, among other places, in the churches of Santa Teresa and Santi Martiri in Turin and in Biella Cathedral. In 1823, Carlo Felice appointed him court painter, and the following year he became Professor of Painting at the Academy.
Below is a selection from the album containing more than 200 drawings by the Turin painter, featuring sketches on a variety of subjects produced by the artist over the course of his long career.
