BISTOLFI LeonardoCasale Monferrato (Al), 1859 - La Loggia (To), 1933
Sculptor and painter, he has been studying in Milan at the Brera Academy since 1875. In 1879 he moved to Turin at Odoardo Tabacchi and executed realist works, drawing inspiration from Antonio Fontanesi in painting. The tomb "The Sphinx", built for the Pansa family of Cuneo (1889-1892), consecrates him as the interpreter of sensual and floral symbolism, of which he becomes the greatest Italian exponent. In 1902 he was among the promoters of the Turin Exhibition of Modern Decorative Art. In his atelier dozens of sculptors are trained to disseminate a style typical of the official celebratory sculpture of the time.
