BURRI Alberto

Cittร  di Castello (Perugia), 1915 - Nice (France), 1995 After graduating in medicine in 1940, he began painting during the war. After a period doing abstracts he passed to works where the shapes, colours and materials used coincide (Neri [Blacks], Catrami [Tars], Muffe [Moulds], and then, from 1952, Sacchi [Bags]). In 1951 he founded the 'Gruppo Origine' together with Colla, Ballocco and Capogrossi. His oeuvre is considered a point of reference for the Art Informel movement in Europe and beyond. In 1981 a museum dedicated to him was opened in his home town.
