LEVI Carlo

Turin, 1902 - Rome, 1975 Painter and writer. After graduating in Medicine, he began painting under Casorati. Friends with Gualino and Gobetti, he worked on 'Rivoluzione Liberale' ['Liberal Revolution'] and was one of the co-founders of 'Giustizia e LibertΓ ' ['Justice and Freedom']. During time spent in Paris he was influenced by post-impressionism and the Fauvists, as well as Modigliani. Between 1929 and 1932 he exhibited with the Six Painters of Turin, then with Menzio and Paulucci alone. In 1935-36 he was imprisoned in Lucania, where he wrote Christ Stopped at Eboli. In the post-war period he concentrated on his writing, journalism and painting.
