A painter. Self-taught, he started in the early 1930s and debuted in about 1940 as part of the Corrente group. In 1946 he signed the "Beyond Guernica" manifesto and later joined the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti, taking the side of abstractionism. In 1952 L. Venturi presented him in the Gruppo degli Otto. With the dynamic gestural impact of his art and the breakdown of the picture plane ("Plurimi"), he acquired prominence in European Informal Art.
