A painter. After initially working in his father's photographic studio, he devoted himself entirely to painting, as a self-taught artist. He debuted at the Sindacali della Promotrice in Turin (1934-35) and from 1942 he exhibited at the Venice Biennales and at the Quadriennali in Rome. In 1969 he became professor of Painting at the Accademia Albertina, of which he was director from 1973 to 1978. Influenced by Menzio, he later turned to mixed media with violent shades of colour and light.
