MAFAI Mario

Rome, 1902 - 1965 Painter. At the end of the 1920's, together with Scipione, Mazzacurati and Antonietta Raphael, his future wife, he established the Via Cavour School, which according to the definition of R.Longhi, focused on lyricism, the evocative properties of colour, legends and pieces of history and life, outwith twentieth century monumentalism. In the 1930's he painted views of Rome, still lifes and portraits. In the post-war period he embraced abstract art.
