SIRONI MarioSassari, 1885 - Milan, 1961
Painter. In 1908 he spent time with Boccioni in Paris and Germany. In Milan after the war he took up with the Futurists and then with Metaphysical art. He supported a return to an essential, archaic style of geometric strength, which he applied to the theme of the city hinterland (Paesaggio urbano [Urban landscape], Jesi Collection). In 1922 he became one of the 'Seven Twentieth Century painters', advocating a return to classic values and Italian sources. In the 1930's he turned to mural painting, mosaic work, architectural design and decoration. Isolated because of his ties with Fascism, in the post-war period he returned to painting, in an abstract vein.
