CAPOGROSSI Giuseppe

Rome, 1900 – 1972

Painter. A law graduate, he began painting in 1926. At the beginning of the 1930's he exhibited frequently with Cagli and Cavalli in the context of the so-called 'Roman School'. After the war a period of intense reflection led him to an abstract and a personal style based on signs and the variations of modular, pseudo-graphic signs. In 1949 he began work on the series entitled Superfici [Surfaces]. In 1951, together with Burri, Colla and Ballocco he founded the 'Gruppo Origine'.
