He debuted at the end of the 1950's with paintings focusing on the human figure, using reflective paints. In 1962 he began applying photographic enlargements of his figures onto mirrored surfaces. He approached Arte Povera and then founded the Zoo Group (1968), dedicated to theatrical, ephimeral work. He then went back to the reflective theme before passing to monumental sculpture, both in perishable materials and marble. He directs the Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, founded in 1998.
